Taking a Strategic Approach to Using Freelance Talent
Freelance work is on the rise in the U.S. As the nature of jobs and workforces continues to evolve—due to factors such as the Covid-19 pandemic, the Great Resignation, and the increase in remote and hybrid work—companies are rethinking the roles, skills, and structures they need for the future. Accordingly, many organizations are using freelance workers for short-term and project-based work, a trend that is only going to continue.
There are many terms for these workers: external talent, contractors, independent workers, contingent workers, on-demand talent. Whatever they’re called, companies will increasingly turn to them instead of hiring more full-time employees (FTEs) or replacing those that leave. And using contingent workers has a range of benefits, from greater agility and flexibilityin staffing to saving money on head count, reducing the need for office space, and being able to bring in new skills quickly. All of these benefits can equip
an organization to meet the challenges of the years ahead.
