In the past couple weeks, Gregg Berhalter, who coached the US Men’s National Soccer Team through the 2022 World Cup, has been in the spotlight for different reasons. His decision to limit the playing time of one of his young players prompted the player’s parents to threaten to expose an incident from more than three decades ago in which Berhalter and a woman got into a fight. Berhalter took the initiative, and with that woman—who became his wife—issued a statement acknowledging that he had kicked her in that incident when he was 18, but that they’d gotten past it, have been married for 25 years, and have raised four kids together.
